About AMC Secretarial Services

AMC Secretarial Services was established in 2012 by experienced secretary, Alison Calcutt. The primary aim for the business is to help sole traders and small businesses save time and be more productive, allowing them to focus on growing their businesses and becoming their own success stories.

Why did I start AMC Secretarial Services?

Whilst I was in full time employment I had friends who were self-employed and were struggling to find the time to keep on top of the administrative side of their businesses. In 2001 I was unfortunately made redundant, at this time I discussed my career options with both friends and family. I began to help my self-employed friends out on an ad-hoc basis and during this time it became apparent that there would be other self-employed people who were in a similar situation. This is when the idea for AMC Secretarial Services began to form.

After speaking to a business mentor, who agreed that my plans were viable, I took the decision to stop looking for employment and form the business.

Experience

Since completing college in 2003 I have worked for a number of both private and public sector organisations, from high profile law and property firms to Birmingham City Council and West Midlands Police.

I worked as a temporary secretary via an employment agency which provided me with the opportunity of seeing how different companies worked. I believe this has given me the ability to be flexible and adapt to different working practices.

Regarding my legal experience, I have worked within residential conveyancing, matrimonial and family, personal injury, medical negligence and private client law.

Qualifications

I left college in 2003 after completing my RSA III Secretarial Studies qualification, along with both A and AS levels in Business Studies, Psychology, Sociology and Human Biology.
